Darren Aronofsky’s divorce lost him The Wolverine job

Darren Aronofsky’s divorce stopped him from directing ‘The Wolverine’.

The 45-year-old director had been in talks to take the reigns on the sixth installment of the ‘X Men’ series and despite confessing that he loved the project, he says he couldn’t commit to it because he was in the middle of his divorce from ‘The Mummy’ actress Rachel Weisz.

He told MTV News: "I loved the script and I thought the film came out great. I just had…it was a hard time in my life.

"It was complicated. I couldn’t leave New York for that long an amount of time."

The ‘Noah’ director, who is currently promoting the film’s release, also revealed that the opportunity to direct the biblical adventure was more important to him.

He added: "And, to be honest, the possibility of ‘Noah’ had started to emerge, and here was something I’d been thinking about for years. I was really excited by that."

Despite turning down the role of director on superhero flick ‘The Wolverine’, Aronofsky – who was reportedly in talks to take the helm of ‘Batman vs. Superman’ – has admitted that he would definitely have been interested in the job which has been snapped up by Zack Snyder.

He said: "Superman’s one of the holy grails. It’s Superman. It’s the best superhero. Batman is great, of course, but it’s Superman. He’s the same level. That possibility was great."
