John Oates: There won’t be new music from Hall and Oates

John Oates says he and his musical partner Daryl Hall will never record new songs together.
The pair, known as Hall & Oates, are recognised by the R.I.A.A. as the number one selling duo in music history and their career has spanned five decades.
Although Hall & Oates still perform live together, John insists the chances of them creating a new studio LP are virtually non-existent because they are content to play the songs their fans love when they take to the stage.
John – who will be taking to the stage at The O2 in London on Saturday (28.10.17) – exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I kind of doubt whether there will be new music it to be honest. We have so many songs that we can’t even play, because we have so many hits. We just don’t have the time to play them. I think we’re both more interested in where we can go individually rather than working together.
"I think you can expect new music from Daryl and I, but just not necessarily together. We have separate projects at this point, and when we come together it’s to play and celebrate the music that we have made together over the past 40 years."
Hall & Oates are celebrating their incredible discography with a new greatest hits album entitled ‘Timeless Classics’ – their first release since 2009’s ‘Do What You Want, Be What You Are: The Music of Hall & Oates’.
The album – which is out now – is comprised of 18 of their most beloved tracks, including ‘Maneater’, ‘Private Eyes’, ‘Kiss On My List’, ‘Everytime You Go Away’ and ‘Rich Girl’.
John, 69, is proud of every song on the compilation and he loves to listen back to his old work because each composition sparks happy memories for him.
He said: "I like all of the songs on the album really, luckily for us we have a lot of hits. They all have elements of things that I really like. ‘Maneater’ to me is the quintessential New York City song of the 80s, when I hear that song it just sounds like New York in the 80s. When I hear a song like ‘Out of Touch’ it just reminds me of being in the studio with this incredible 80s band that we had and the excitement of using this new digital technology which had just been invented for the first time, they were such exciting times in the studio and it just goes on and on and on. These songs are my memories that I can connect with."
