Richard Madeley not looking to replace Piers Morgan

Richard Madeley insists he doesn’t want Piers Morgan’s job permanently.
The 61-year-old presenter stepped in to cover for the ‘Good Morning Britain’ host on Wednesday (18.10.17) following a successful stint in the summer, and though he loves working on the show, he doesn’t want to commit to a full-time schedule.
He said: "I don’t want to go back to five days a week, I did that for 21 years, but they phoned me up after I finished [in the summer] and asked if I’d go back [as guest host] and I said yes.
"I’ll be doing more rolling through the year, but I’m not after anyone’s job."
And Richard thinks Piers is "irreplaceable" as host of the ITV show.
He added: "Piers is irreplaceable, but the only thing we have in common – I’ve known him for 30 years – we’re like Marmite, people either love or hate us, they take us in different ways.
"But Piers is so funny, so sharp. I’m very happy to step in, go in, show off, and go home again."
While Richard loves working on the programme, he admits he didn’t know what to expect when he was first approached as he hadn’t seen the network’s early morning content since "s**t" ‘Daybreak’ – which broadcast from 2010 to 2014 – had aired in the slot now occupied by ‘GMB’.
Speaking at the Pinktober Gala with Hard Rock Heals at London’s Dorchester Hotel, he told BANG Showbiz: "I enjoyed it and I think that comes over, I didn’t know I’d enjoy it when they asked me to do it, I hadn’t really watched it since it was ‘Daybreak’, which was a s**t show.
"I watched ‘Good Morning Britain’ and I was really impressed, I thought it was very American, in a good way. All the presenters, are all good and there’s obviously a good team behind it. I knew within 20 minutes, you never know when sitting in for someone, but within 20 minutes I thought, ‘This is good’. "
