The ‘I’m Outta Love’ hitmaker is backing the former JLS singer and his professional partner because she feels she’s the reason the brunette beauty was kicked out of the competition early last year as she couldn’t compete in the dance off against Melvin Odoom, whom Janette was paired with, because she’d ripped her pectoral muscle.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, Anastacia said: "Janette has Aston and Aston and I are with the same management company. Last year Janette had Melvin and they were the guys who were kicked out because I couldn’t take part in the dance-off because I ripped my pectoral. I felt bad but it wasn’t anything I did it was to do with the votes but now she has Aston and they have a great chance. I’m so excited for them."
The 49-year-old singer agreed to take part in last year’s series of the ballroom and latin show because she wanted to donate her fee to Breast Cancer Awareness following her double mastectomy in 2015 after two separate battles with cancer.
But she has admitted the experience was too much for her and she wishes she could have got further in the competition – even though she was scared to push herself.
She explained: "I was thinking that I was going to dance to that glorious glitter ball. I think if I had not injured myself then I would have had much more confidence to push myself harder but I was so scared that I would serious damage to my breast that it knocked my confidence, but I did OK. My level of competition was thinking ‘please kick me out today, please kick me out today’.
"It’s really difficult but I wanted to stay in for as long as I could to show women that have through cancer like me that you can still do these things, it’s so ironic that I went in to raise money for breast cancer and to support women through the different stages they go through and then my injury was in the same area, it was almost emotionally too much for me but I would never ever give up on my battle with cancer even through another women’s eyes. That was the fighter in me. I was very proud to stay in until Halloween."
