The Crown is set to explore the royal relationship with Nazis

Netflix drama ‘The Crown’ is set to explore the British Royal Family’s relationship with the Nazi party.
The popular TV series, which stars actress Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth, is poised to dedicate a future episode to Edward VIII and his dealings with the ruling power in Germany at the start of World War Two.
In particular, the episode will focus on his relationship with the Nazis after he abdicated the throne.
Of course, it is not the first time that the much-discussed show will have explored a controversial topic, having previously portrayed supposed arguments between the newlywed Queen and Prince Philip, as well as Princess Margaret’s love life.
Robert Lacey, the historian and author of the show’s companion book, revealed the plans for the programme during his recent appearance at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.
Lacey, 73, said he was conscious of criticism of the series, including the decision to previously shy away from Edward VIII’s controversial meeting with German leader Adolf Hitler in 1937, and was keen to see the issues addressed in the new season.
He said, according to the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "Somebody said to me the other day, the problem with your Edward VIII is that you don’t talk about his Nazi side so I don’t watch it any more.
"Well just to tell you, season two starts in December and there is a whole episode addressing this question of Hitler and the Windsors and all these subtle points."
The second series of ‘The Crown’, which also stars the likes of Matt Smith and John Lithgow, is set to premiere on Netflix on December 8.
