Ross Kemp was ‘petrified’ in DRC

Ross Kemp was "petrified" when he shot his ‘Extreme World’ documentary in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The 53-year-old investigative journalist has been to some of the world’s most dangerous countries over the years, but he has admitted nothing could have prepared him for his time in the African country and has stuck with him ever since.
Speaking during The Blend Sessions – held in celebration of the new pop-up bar of the same name in East London – Ross said: "Having been to the DRC, that is one of the most extreme places I’ve been to my life. I was petrified.
"When you go to these environments you need to make sure they are they are in the same state when you left as you’re not the Red Cross. I feel like the praise goes to the fixer, as I go there and leave afterwards. You feel a responsibility to make sure the people you’re working with are safe."
The former ‘EastEnders’ star – who is known for playing bad boy Grant Mitchell in the long-running soap – has admitted, although his work is often life threatening, he’s addicted exploring human beings and how they "work in the world."
He explained: "I have a natural interest in human beings and how they work in the world. I’m interested in the ways that connect humans. Getting someone to tell you their darkest secrets and the darkest things that have happened to them has fascinated me. When people are prepared to talk, we should be prepared to listen."
