Russell Brand reaches out to Katy Perry

Russell Brand wants to be friends with Katy Perry.
The 42-year-old comic – who has 10-month-old daughter Mabel with new wife Laura Gallacher – was wed to the ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ singer for just 14 months before they split in December 2011, and though they have rarely spoken since, he’s "willing and open" to put aside their differences and be pals.
Asked by Grazia magazine if he can see himself and Katy ever being friends, he said: "Oh yeah, I hope so. I’m willing and open for reconciliation, any kind. Because if we can’t overcome our relatively trivial personal disputes in this world, what hope is there for us?"
During their relationship, both Russell and Katy had matching tattoos, reading ‘Go with the flow’ in Sanskrit, and the ‘Arthur’ star has no plans to have his removed.
He said: "Of course I’m going to keep it."
While his relationship with the 32-year-old singer didn’t end well, Russell has no regrets about their brief marriage.
He said: "It was a very important and lovely time in my life. I don’t regret being married to Katy at all. I have very positive feelings about that whole experience and Katy is an extraordinary woman."
The reformed sex addict is happy to have settled down with Laura, and credits becoming a father with making marriage more important to him.
He said: "It’s funny because marriage is such an external thing but I do think it’s good and it matters."
And the British funnyman thinks being a parent to a little girl has made him a feminist.
He said: "It would have been a bit rich to call myself a feminist before, but having Mabel has made me one in a very simple way. I couldn’t consider the idea of being a woman before and now I can.
"And the thought that my daughter would be restricted, held down in any way or disqualified on the basis of her gender is one I really don’t care for at all."
The full interview with Russell appears in this week’s Grazia, on sale now.
