Ruth Langsford: I’m too fat and old for Strictly Come Dancing

Ruth Langsford fears she’s "too fat and too old" to do well on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 57-year-old television presenter is set to take part in the BBC Latin and ballroom dance competition which kicks off on Saturday (09.09.17) and has said she’s been plagued with fears that her body is too out of shape to do well, and has thought "every negative thought possible" in the run up to the show.
Speaking to The Sun Online, she said: "The nerves have started very badly for me. I had a real jitter. I got up very early yesterday and did that thing of, ‘err, what day is it? Where am I supposed to be?’
"Then every negative thought I could possibly think about doing ‘Strictly’ suddenly was there. I was thinking I haven’t trained enough, I’m too fat, I’m too old, I’m too busy, I can’t do it. I had to get up because I got myself in such a state."
The ‘This Morning’ presenter’s worries can’t have been helped by bookmakers giving odds of just 66/1 for her to win the show, but she insists she’s not bothered by the figures as she says there’s nothing to base them on.
She added: "They don’t know who everybody is yet and they haven’t seen me dance, so I don’t really know what they are basing that on. Actually it doesn’t even worry me as the whole thing is a competition and an entertainment show. I am determined to enjoy it."
And Ruth knows she isn’t the only one feeling the nerves before the show’s launch either, as fellow her contestants – which includes the likes of Gemma Atkinson, Brian Conley and Mollie King – have told her they too are feeling "jittery".
She said: "We were all on the WhatsApp group and I said: ‘I’m not sure about everybody else, but I’m feeling very jittery’. Then suddenly everybody else was going, ‘yes, I am a bit too!’."
