Nicole Scherzinger: Social media is important

Nicole Scherzinger believes social media is "really important".
The former Pussycat Doll has said she thinks having a presence on sites such as Twitter and Facebook is detrimental for celebrities, and wishes she was "better" at using the apps herself.
She said: "Social media is really important, I don’t do it enough! I wish I was better at it. I’m not a big fanatic, as some people are, it’s more for the millennials. I just feel like there’s not as much mystique any more."
Nicole, 39, believes the Internet offers a "great way" for celebrities to connect with their fans, but warns that people need to set "boundaries" and be aware of how they "represent" themselves online.
She added: "It’s also a great way to connect with your fans directly, but I think there is a danger that maybe you can overstep your boundaries. You have a responsibility to uphold how you represent yourself."
Social media does have its downfalls though, as Nicole thinks the importance of the apps puts more pressure on older people who want to be stars, as she says it’s "harder" for older people to make a break through.
She said: "I think it’s harder when it comes to age. I feel like, growing up, my dad listened to people like Billy Joel and Phil Collins. These weren’t teenagers. Now, it feels like so many people on the radio are so young. I think it’s harder with age to make it in the industry, on the radio."
The ‘Right There’ singer does, however, believe streaming services can help people "break" the stigma of "appearance and age".
Speaking to TV Life magazine, she said: "But what’s so great is that we have streaming. That’s awesome because once you have a hit, streaming breaks all the boundaries of appearance and age."
