Prince William and Duchess Catherine sample Polish delicacies

Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, dined on Polish delicacies during the second day of their trip to Poland.
The royal couple, both 35, were treated to meal cooked by TV chef Damian Wawrzyniak in Gdansk on Tuesday (18.07.17) as part of their five-day royal visit to the European country.
Damian whipped up an array of classic Polish food for the pair, although he made sure to use British ingredients such as vegetables sourced from Cambridgeshire.
William and Catherine began their feast with a starter of traditional Polish smalec with sourdough bread and pickles, before moving on to Polish pierogi stuffed with slow cooked British Dingley Dell pork, followed by brined tartare of Baltic Sea wild herring with Fenland shallots.
For dessert, they were served puff cake, Ptys, filled with whipped cream and finished with Cambridgeshire summer fruits.
Speaking about his menu, Damian said: "I am over the moon to have received an invitation to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and speak with them about Polish-British cooperation during their first official joint visit.
"It’s an honour to be able to serve them my food and to introduce them to some of my favourite traditional Polish recipes."
Meanwhile, the couple were treated to a liquor made from flakes of gold when they touched down in the capital of Warsaw, which William described as as "very good, very sweet", while Kate added it was "very strong".
They also sampled local delicacies from a local market, with Prince William opting for a mushroom perogi – a type of dumpling – with Kate opted for the salmon and crayfish.
Prince William and Duchess Catherine are currently on a five-day tour of Poland and Germany with their children Prince George, three, and Princess Charlotte, two.
The family are making the trip at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as part of an effort to maintain good relations with European countries in the wake of Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.
