Britain’s Prince Edward visited an exhibition of ancient Roman sexual artefacts yesterday (27.03.14).
Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son was given a tour of Brading Roman Villa on the Isle of Wight, where he was shown a new exhibition, Roman Sexuality: Images, Myths and Meanings, which features pieces on loan from the British Museum.
The sexually laden showcase included the famous Warren Cup, which was recently featured on a BBC documentary, ‘History of the World in 100 Objects’.
The ancient cup, which is thought to be from the first century AD, is engraved with graphic depictions of male same-sex acts.
The exhibition’s curator Mike Bishop showed the 50-year-old royal around the museum and it seems Edward was very curious about the sexually themed artefacts.
Mike told the Isle of Wight County Press: "He spent a good bit of time looking around. He was very interested indeed."
Edward is a patron of the Brading Roman Villa and visited the museum on a trip to the Isle of Wight with his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
