Rory Cowan quits Mrs Brown’s Boys

Rory Cowan has quit ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’.
The 57-year-old Irish actor – who has portrayed Agnes’ son Rory in the comedy for 26 years – has admitted he hasn’t been "happy" being part of the production – created by Brendan O’Carroll (Mrs. Brown/Agnes) – for a while now and performed with his co-stars for the final time at London’s O2 Arena last night (09.07.17).
Speaking to the Irish Daily Mail newspaper, he said: "I hadn’t been happy working for the ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ company for the last 18 months to two years.
"I feel that 26 years is enough so I decided it was time to go. I told Brendan on June 16 about my decision to leave. That’s when I handed in my notice. I was supposed to leave at the end of that week, but Brendan said that would be impossible and asked if I’d stay on until the end of the London O2 gigs. So I agreed to that."
Although he’s revealed he wasn’t happy being on the show anymore, Rory refused to divulge why he’d come to his final decision and, so far, doesn’t regret his choice.
He explained: "I’m not going into details about why I was unhappy. I did the final show [in London], packed my stuff into a small Waitrose plastic bag and just left the venue."
Rory is now planning to take some time off before trying to secure a radio gig.
He added: "I’d love to do something like a weekend radio show but we’ll see what comes down the line. For now I’m going to take a little time off."
‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ was originally a stage show but became an instant television hit when the BBC picked it up in 2011. Since then, the cast have sold out shows around the world and released a film titled ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie’ in 2014.
