Queen Elizabeth sends sales soaring

Queen Elizabeth’s Royal Ascot wardrobe has sent sales soaring for one big retailer.
JD Williams – a popular choice with women – has reported a 127 per cent increase in sales of hot pink outfits in the week after the 91-year-old monarch wore the colour to the annual horse racing meeting at Ascot Racecourse, Berkshire, south east England.
Yellow pieces were also popular on the clothing retailer’s website with a 135 per cent hike, and green clothes were up 77 per cent.
Suzi Burns, spokesperson for JD Williams, recently said: "The Queen is a great example of fashion without age limits.
"Wearing brightly coloured clothing is usually associated with twenty-somethings but she has mastered the look effortlessly and our customers are clearly cottoning on to the trend."
The queen can often be seen wearing bright attire at engagements and her daughter-in-law Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, has previously admitted it is a deliberate ploy to ensure the monarch "stands out".
She said: "Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, ten, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen’s hat as she went past.
"She needs to stand out for people to be able to say, ‘I saw the Queen’."
The queen is a huge horse racing fan and owns many a thoroughbred. She attends Royal Ascot every year.
