The Duke of Cambridge commemorates the Battle of Messines Ridge centenary

The Duke of Cambridge attended a ceremony in Belgium on Wednesday (07.06.17) to mark the Battle of Messines Ridge centenary.
Prince William visited the country yesterday to take part in a day of commemorative events and to pay his respects to those killed in battle that took place on the Western Front near West Flanders during the First World War in 1917.
During William’s visit he accompanied the Taoiseach, as well as Princess Astrid of Belgium to the Island of Ireland Peace Park where they laid a wreath to commemorate the brave fighters who lost their lives.
A photograph of William during the ceremony has been shared on the Kensington Palace Instagram account, which read: "Today The Duke of Cambridge visited Belgium to attend a day of commemorative events marking 100 years since the Battle of Messines Ridge.
The Duke joined the Taoiseach and Princess Astrid of Belgium in attending a ceremony at the Island of Ireland Peace Park, and laid a wreath in commemoration of those who lost their lives. (sic)."
William – who has three-year-old son Prince George and two-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte with his wife Duchess Catherine – also met families and friends of those who fought in the Battle of Messines at the Wytschaete Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery during his visit.
A separate post on the photo-sharing site read: "The Duke also met relative of the soldiers who fought at the Battle of Messines at the Wytschaete Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Belgium. (sic)."
