Channel 4 teases that The Crystal Maze is ‘coming soon’

Channel 4 has teased that ‘The Crystal Maze’ is "coming soon".
The popular 90s game show, which is making a full series comeback following the success of the one-off celebrity ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ special that was hosted by Stephen Merchant last year – is set to hit screens over the next few months.
Channel 4 took to Twitter on Friday (26.05.17) to tease: "So who’s excited for @TheCrystalMaze? #CrystalMaze. Coming soon…" along with a picture showing its host Richard Ayoade in full costume – giving fans a glimpse of what the full series will look like once it’s filmed at a purpose-built maze in Bristol by designer James Dillion.
Meanwhile ‘The Crystal Maze’ itself added to the excitement build up when it tweeted from its official Twitter account: "The maze is almost upon us. Those six little words. It’s nearly time. #CrystalMaze."
At the time, Tom Beck, Head of Live & Events at Channel 4, said: "’The Stand Up to Cancer’ special was so brilliant and so successful that commissioning a series of ‘The Crystal Maze’ was almost a no-brainer. I couldn’t be more pleased and excited that Richard has agreed to become the new Maze Master – he’s an inspired choice."
The original series ran from 1990 until 1995 and was previously fronted by ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ creator Richard O’Brien and punk rocker Ed Tudor-Pole.
At the height of its popularity, the series drew in up to six million viewers per episode, making it the most popular show on Channel 4 at the time.
The programme famously featured four zones, Aztec, Industrial – which was later replaced by Ocean – Futuristic and Medieval, where the contestants took part in a series of challenges and games in order to win crystals, each of which gave them five seconds in the final crystal dome.
In the finale, the teams had to grab 100 gold tokens which blew around the dome, but lost one for every silver they also had.
Just 18 out of the 83 teams who took part in the show over the years managed to win.
