Laura Carmichael waiting for Downton Abbey movie script

Laura Carmichael is still waiting for a script for the ‘Downton Abbey’ film.
It was thought that the big screen adaptation of the period drama, which came to an end in 2015 following five years on screen, would begin shooting later this year but things have seemingly come to a halt for now as the 30-year-old actress – who starred as Lady Edith Crawley in the series – is yet to see her lines.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz at Parkinson’s UK Symfunny No. 2, the blonde beauty said: "I am always amazed. My family are always telling me what they read but I don’t know any more than that. As we have said before, if there is a script for us then we will be delighted. We just have to wait and see."
Michelle Dockery, 35, who played Lady Mary Crawley, also said she has heard the rumour that the script has been written and is welcoming the adaptation.
She said: "So we’ll all keep our fingers crossed that it all comes together. We’re all willing it to happen. I’d absolutely jump at the chance to star in it if I’m asked. I’ll squeeze it in."
However, ‘Downton Abbey’ co-star Dame Maggie Smith has slammed the rumours of a movie saying it would squeeze the series "dry".
She said: "I just think it’s squeezing it dry. I don’t know what it could possibly be."
Although the 82-year-old actress has criticised screenwriter Julian Fellowes for creating a ‘Downton Abbey’ film, it doesn’t look like her opinion will stop the plan from going ahead as he recently admitted that filming for the movie will start this year.
He said recently: "It hasn’t been confirmed or commissioned yet… But we are all hoping it will happen. That’s all I know.
"Obviously I have been thinking about it because if they suddenly give the go-ahead I don’t want to be completely caught standing. But I wouldn’t take it as more than that."
