Duchess Camilla visits riding school

Duchess Camilla paid a visit to a horse riding school in Vienna on Thursday (06.04.17).
The 69-year-old royal has always had an interest in equestrian so it comes as no surprise that she decided to stop by the Spanish Riding School while her husband Prince Charles, whom she’s currently on a nine-day tour with, carried out solo engagements.
The duchess was shown around the school by the director Elisabeth Gurtler, the school’s director, before she was was treated to a special classic performance.
According to the Express newspaper, she said of the display: "It was wonderful. The last time I was here was in 1970."
After the performance, Camilla – who was at the school for more than hour before she rejoined her husband – met the riders at a reception before she paid a visit to the horses and treated them to sugar lumps.
She said: "I normally bring my polo mints but I’ve forgotten them today."
The royal couple have certainly had a busy time recently as they met with the head of the Roman Catholic Church Pope Francis on Tuesday (04.04.17) during their tour of Italy.
Charles and Camilla were given a tour of The Vatican, and were handed a bronze olive branch and a copy of the Pope’s Encyclicals, including one on climate change and sustainable development.
During their tour, the royal couple were also shown the Vatican’s secret archive and looked at original documents relating to the Catholic Church and Britain, where they were shown a number of original rare letters including the last letter ever written by condemned Mary Queen of Scots on 8 February 1587 before her execution for treason.
Upon meeting Pope Francis, the pontiff urged Prince Charles to bring peace to the world during their chat which the Daily Express newspaper reports lasted for around 30 minutes.
Pope Francis said: "Wherever you go, may you be a man of peace."
To which Charles responded: "I’ll do my best."
