Sue Perkins to host Virgin BAFTA TV Awards

Sue Perkins will host the Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards on May 14.
The former ‘Great British Bake Off’ presenter is "thrilled" she’s been asked to present the glitzy industry bash when it takes place at London’s Royal Festival Hall and she’s looking forward to rubbing shoulders with the "incredible British talent" set to be recognised on the night.
The 46-year-old comedian said: "I am thrilled to be hosting the Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards this year Not only is it one of the highlights of the television calendar, it’s also a superbly fun night and an opportunity to celebrate the incredible British talent we have behind our very best TV programmes."
The nominations will be revealed live on Tuesday, April 11 at 7:30am on BBC One and the main event will be broadcast on the channel with live streams across social media.
The event will see a return to the BBC for Sue – who presided over six series of ‘GBBO’ with the broadcaster until they sold the rights to hit baking show to Channel 4 – and Pinki Chambers, Commissioning Editor for BBC Entertainment, thinks viewers will thoroughly enjoy seeing her back on screens because of her "warmth and humour."
She said: "Sue is dearly loved by the BBC’s viewers and we are delighted that she is hosting the awards this year. Her warmth and humour will resonate with people at home and I have no doubt that it will be a highly entertaining evening for everyone."
Sue will also be seen on the BBC later this year presenting ‘The Ganges’, which will tell the story of developing India through the eyes of the millions living along its banks.
