Queen Elizabeth cancels visit to Scotland Yard

Queen Elizabeth has cancelled her visit to the new headquarters of the Metropolitan Police in London following the city’s suspected terror attack on Wednesday (22.03.17).
The 90-year-old monarch was due to officially open the new Scotland Yard today alongside her husband Prince Philip but she’s decided to postpone her visit following the tragic event in Westminster, which saw a man mow down a group of people on the bridge before stabbing a police officer to death, while the city remains on high alert.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said last night: "In light of today’s events the decision has been taken to postpone the Queen’s engagement to New Scotland Yard tomorrow. The visit will be rearranged for a later date."
It’s thought around 20 people were injured during the incident and five people – including the brave officer – died before the suspected terrorist was shot dead by police.
Scotland Yard have confirmed they are treating the incident, which came exactly after the atrocities in Brussels, as a terror attack, but the man’s motives are as yet unknown.
The queen was at Buckingham Palace when Westminster fell under attack, which prompted the armed police patrolling the royal residence to secure the gates.
Londoners and those visiting the capital have been reassured that extra armed and unarmed police will be deployed on the streets of the city and underground stations.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: "Londoners should be aware that there will be additional armed and unarmed police officers on our streets from tonight in order to keep Londoners, and all those visiting out city safe."
Prime Minister Theresa May has asked the city to continue as normal in a bid to show the extremists that the country will remain strong and "move forward together."
She said: "We will all move forward together, never giving in to terror and never allowing the voices of hate and evil to drive us apart."
