The Who announce Las Vegas residency

The Who have announced a six-show Las Vegas residency.
The British rockers – led by 71-year-old guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend, and 73-year-old singer Roger Daltrey – took to Facebook late on Monday (13.03.17) to announce they are set to take to the stage at the famous Caesars Palace for a six-show residency which kicks off on July 29.
Posting on the social media site, the ‘Baba O’Riley’ hitmakers said: "Vegas! We’re coming to rock The Colosseum at Caesars Palace with a six-show residency July 29 – Aug 11. Tickets go on-sale Fri at 12pm. (sic)"
Although the residency is fairly short, The Guardian newspaper reports the six shows were originally described in a statement as a "first run", meaning extra dates could be on the horizon.
The ‘My Generation’ rockers will become the first ever rock band to perform at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace music venue since it opened its doors in 2003, and will join the likes of Mariah Carey, Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Elton John, and Celine Dion, who have all performed residencies in the past.
Meanwhile, The Who are set to perform an acoustic version of their rock opera ‘Tommy’ in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust charity at two shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 30 March and 1 April, marking 28 years since the band last performed the tracks together.
Teenage Cancer Trust Honorary Patron Daltrey has been supporting the charity for over 22 years and he has played a major role in bringing the organization to the US.
Speaking about his work with the charity, Daltrey has said: "We’re had so many incredible musical moments at these shows over the years but these moments are made even more special by the wonderful young people I have met. They shouldn’t have to stop being teenagers just because they have cancer. They are young people first – cancer patients second. With their incredible vigor and positivity as inspiration, we aim to keep Teenage Cancer Trust leading the world in cancer care for this age group."
Tickets for The Who’s Las Vegas residency go on sale on Friday March 17.
