Paul McCartney has ‘fun’ breaking the rules of songwriting

Sir Paul McCartney says he’s still writing songs with the same rule‑dodging, wide‑eyed mischief he had as a teenager.

James Blunt: ‘People stop me, thinking I’m a taxi driver’

James Blunt is regularly asked if he’s a taxi driver by the public.
The 43-year-old musician bought a Tuk-Tuk in Thailand, which he has since shipped to Ibiza, and when he drives around in the three-wheeled motorised vehicle he is often stopped by people and is requested to take them to certain destinations.
Speaking about his purchase and the reaction to it to ES Magazine, the ‘Goodbye My Lover’ hitmaker said: "I bought a Tuk-Tuk in Thailand. It cost a bit to get it back to Ibiza, but it’s amazing. People stop me, thinking I’m a taxi driver, and then when they recognise me say things, like, ‘Oh, my God! You’re that guy who sang that song! What happened to you?’"
And the dark-haired vocalist’s unusual possessions doesn’t stop there, as he has admitted he has a burgeoning collection of hotel room key cards, which he has collected over the years in the hope his artistic friend will have a use for them.
Speaking about the additional pieces of memorabilia he has amassed, he said: "Hotel room key cards. I amassed a pile of them thinking that an artist friend of mine could use them — but actually, no matter how many you pull out, they still don’t look nearly as colourful or as fun as credit cards"
Although James’ pal has no use for the collectibles, he has still kept hold of the plastic pieces.
He continued: "I really should just throw them away".
And the next item on the British star’s must-have list is the army barracks in London’s Hyde Park, which he used to live in, because he wants to refurbish them.
He explained: "I used to live in Hyde Park Barracks. I’d love to buy it and knock it down. It’s hideous. There used to be a beautiful old building there until Basil Spence built his monstrosity."
Meanwhile, the artist – who has eight-month-old son with his wife Sofia Wellesley – claims the best place to take someone on a first date is Nandos, because he believes you can "only improve" from dining in the popular restaurant chain.
He said: "Nando’s on High Street Kensington. It’s important to keep expectations low on a first date. That way, things can only improve."
