Luke Evans’ childhood dream was to work in a supermarket

Luke Evans wanted to work in a supermarket as a child.
The 37-year-old thespian maybe one of the world’s most in-demand actors with four new films coming out this year, including the soon-to-be released live-action Disney film ‘Beauty and the Beast’, he had very different ambitions growing up in Wales.
As a youngster Evans was obsessed with the tills in his local supermarket and always dreamed of having a job manning the checkout.
In an interview with the new German edition of GQ Style magazine, he said: "I always wanted to just do what I love. As a child, I wanted to be a salesman at the supermarket. I loved the tills because they looked so interesting and made all these noises, no nonsense! After I got over the supermarket tills that was the beginning of my interest in acting."
Although he eventually settled on acting as a career, Evans – who began his journey to the big screen in 2000 with a host of theatre roles in London’s West End – took on lots of part-time jobs to earn enough cash to pursue his ultimate goal.
He said: "I did everything to survive. I remember exactly how it is to not know how you are going to pay your rent. When I was 20 years old, I had several jobs. I could never have survived from my money from my first show. So I sang every Tuesday with a jazz band for little money I worked in an agency in the morning, and in the evening I was a doorman at a nightclub. And if that was not enough, I also helped out with Harrods. I did everything to survive."
Evans plays villainous hunter Gaston in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ alongside Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the cursed Prince Adam who must live as The Beast until the love of a woman can break the curse.
