Heather Graham makes directorial debut with Sex in the City-style film

Heather Graham’s new film is similar to ‘Sex and the City’.
The 47-year-old actress has turned her hand to writing and directing with ‘Half Magic’ and admitted a lot of the content within the "sex comedy" is based on the "bad and stupid" things she has done in her life, and thinks it will appeal to fans of the iconic US TV series, which followed four women on Manhattan’s dating scene.
In an interview with The Times newspaper, she said: "I guess, yeah. There’s a little similarity (to ‘Sex and the City’). It’s a sex comedy basically.
"Three women, their friendship, their sex lives, the different crazy relationships we get into. I wanted to make it fun of certain bad, stupid things I’d done in the past – dating a drug addict y’know – so I wrote this script.
"I had this one friend who obsessed on her ex-husband who was never nice to her and she would never move on. And another friend who dated this guy who wouldn’t commit."
Heather was inspired to write the film when she began trying to find ways to make herself laugh about a "tragic" break-up she’d experienced.
She admitted: "I went through a break-up and was thinking how at the time it’s really tragic, but when you look back it just seems hilarious. I was writing down the things in my computer just to crack myself up. It was so fun, I kept writing. My friend encouraged me to direct it and when I did it was just the funniest thing I’ve done. You get to choose a bunch of talented, cool people and sort of, like, make a baby with them."
But with sexism making it difficult for some women to crack Hollywood, the ‘Hangover’ star decided to make this struggle a feature in her movie.
She explained: "I’ve been trying to make and produce movies about women for years and it’s been really hard, so I made a movie about a woman trying to make women’s movies in Hollywood and how hard it is."
And the budding director has a bigger aim in life than just writing and making films.
She added: "I just wanna be happy, y’know? The goal is to be happy. To realise what you can’t control and prioritise your own happiness over everything else."
