Russell Grant to perform as Diana Ross For Comic Relief

Russell Grant is to perform as Diana Ross for ‘Let’s Sing And Dance For Comic Relief’.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant – who turned 66 on Sunday (05.02.17) – is over the moon that he gets to pick up his dancing shoes once again and belt out the lyrics to the music legend’s 1985 classic ‘Chain Reaction’ in the name of charity.
Of his new gig, he said: "This is the best birthday present to be taking part in ‘Let’s Sing And Dance’ for this great charity. I was 66 last week and to be asked to do my bit in such a spectacular way is amazing.
"I’ve played Edna in ‘Hairspray’ and Madame Arcati in’ Blithe Spirit’ and now ‘Chain Reaction’ – think Russell as Divine with a tribute to Diana Ross: it’s Viva la Diva!"
The brand new version of the BBC charity show comes with a twist as the celebrities will have to also sing as well as perfect their dance moves.
Joining the much-loved Astrologer is comedienne Sara Pascoe and former ‘Coronation Street’ star Sally Lindsay.
The latter is to channel her inner rock star by portraying iconic glam band Slade’s frontman, Noddy Holder, and is hoping to impress the 70-year-old retired musician with her moves.
Sally said: "I’m thrilled to be performing on ‘Let’s Sing And Dance For Comic Relief’ and can’t stop laughing when I think about it! I hope Noddy will still speak to me after!"
The celebrities will face a judging panel comprised of comics Frank Skinner, Jo Brand and Jason Manford and ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ star Jennifer Saunders.
They will have the job of deciding who will make it through to the final of the competition alongside the viewers’ vote.
Also competing as a team are ‘The One Show’ presenters Angellica Bell, Iwan Thomas, Alex Riley, Michelle Ackerley and Dominic Littlewood.
Heading up the four-part-series is former ‘Great British Bake Off’ co-hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.
Sue, 47, said: "I’m thrilled to be co-presenting ‘Lets Sing and Dance for Comic Relief’, not least because it will finally show the world why I was voted West Penwith’s Krumping Champion (over 40s category)."
And Mel, 48, added: "Since leaving the Royal Ballet twelve years ago, Mel is really looking forward to getting back on her points and showing the brave Comic Relief celebrity dancers how to split leap and ball change.
"She’s delighted to be taking time out from her busy schedule at the Royal Opera House (she was recently called ‘a complete and utter Tosca’ in the starring role of the eponymous opera) to take part in co-hosting duties for ‘Let’s Sing And Dance For Comic Relief’."
