Kris Marshall will take on jobs for his children

Kris Marshall’s future roles will be determined by his children.
The 43-year-old actor has just turned his back on ‘Death in Paradise’, in which he portrayed DI Humphrey Goodman, after four years and, although he thoroughly enjoyed his time on the murder drama series, he’s keen to land a part in a kids’ movie so that his four-year-old son Thomas and baby daughter Elsie can enjoy it as well.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: "I spent about eight months of my year on ‘Death in Paradise’ so it doesn’t leave a massive amount of time to do other stuff. I like to do everything, if I can.
"There’s a lot of roles which I would have loved to have taken that went to other people. I’ll still do films when the opportunity arises. I like to mix it up. Of course, I still have to audition. The general rule of thumb is that if it’s a good job you have to audition for it.
"If I’m prepared, I feel fine. But when you audition in the US you often do three in a day and you’re driving around Los Angeles, so it’s difficult to feel prepared.
"I’ll definitely be considering a lot more for my kids now. Hopefully a few of those will come my way. That would be lovely."
He’s also hoping his next role will be closer to home as the former ‘My Family’ star spent half the year in Guadeloupe – an island in the southern Caribbean Sea – while he was shooting ‘Death in Paradise’ and made a 16-hour trip back to Britain every six weeks so that he could see his children and his wife Hannah for a few days.
He explained: "It was very hard because my daughter was only three months old when I left. In some ways it was easier for me than it was my wife, as I didn’t have the sleepless nights. I got to leave all of that behind. But it was tough being away from her every day and missing her. I got to come back a bit more than I normally would for a few days every six weeks. But my daughter grew massively between visits. Thankfully she still recognised me when I got back, so it was all right. She’s sick of me now, though."
