Bruno Mars in talks for Prince tribute at Grammys

Bruno Mars is in talks to take on a Prince tribute at this year’s Grammys.
The ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker tragically passed away in June 2016 at the age of 57 after accidentally overdosing on fentanyl, and now the 31-year-old musician is reportedly gearing up to perform a tribute to the late star at the upcoming Grammy awards.
According to Billboard, the ’24K Magic’ hitmaker will take to the stage accompanied by members of The Time – who were close to the late music icon – and sources stress to the publication that "the performance has not yet been confirmed" as of the time of writing.
The publication reports: "It was unclear at press time whether Mars and the group would be performing songs by Prince or by The Time; or whether Mars would perform one of his own songs separately or as part of a medley; or whether Time frontman Morris Day would be part of the set."
Despite being a four-time Grammys winner, the 31-year-old R&B superstar wasn’t eligible for nominations this year as his smash hit album, also titled ’24K Magic’, missed the deadline as it was released on November 18, 2016 and the deadline set by the Recording Academy was October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016.
The news comes after it was revealed last week that the ‘Just The Way You Are’ musician would be performing at the award ceremony – which is being hosted by James Corden – at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on February 12, where he will join a host of star-studded performers such as Adele, Metallica, John Legend, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban.
Meanwhile, electronic duo Daft Punk – comprised of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo – are set to make their live comeback performing with The Weeknd at the ceremony, which will mark their first live performance since 2014.
