Charli XCX: will.i.am throws ‘random words’ into songs

Charli XCX says will.i.am throws "random words" into his songs.
The 24-year-old singer is currently working on the follow-up to her 2014 album ‘Sucker’, and has said her time in the studio with the Black Eyed Peas rapper has been "amazing", although she wasn’t too convinced on his "interesting strategy" when it comes to song writing.
Asked what it was like to work with the 41-year-old musician, Charli said: "Amazing! I love him.
"We were writing and he was like ‘the verse – just say random words. Nobody listens to the verse’.
"I thought, ‘Hm, interesting strategy.’ Then I listened again to his songs and I was like, ‘Fuck, he actually does this! He really believes in this strategy! But it’s a really fun way to write songs."
And the ‘After The Afterparty’ hitmaker hopes her new venture will be better than her last, as she claimed she made "rash decisions" that she wasn’t happy with.
When asked by Q Magazine what she’d change about ‘Sucker’, the brunette beauty replied: "I made some rash decisions with ‘Sucker’, like the song ‘Break The Rules’. That was so bad. I hate it. I wrote it at a writing camp for other artists with Benny Blanco and Stargate, and I was like, ‘Whoever sings this song is an idiot.’"
Previously, the ‘Boom Clap’ singer branded her upcoming third studio venture as a "party album".
She said: "On my previous record, I was really annoyed at the music industry and felt like I had something to prove.
"After that, I didn’t feel I had anything to prove anymore. Also one of my favourite hobbies is partying, and I realised that I never actually made a party album. I never made an album that I would want to hear at a club. It was very indulgent in that sense because I just wanted to make an album that I could get fucked up to. It’s the soundtrack to my nights."
