Hailee Steinfeld’s balancing act

Hailee Steinfeld finds it "challenging" balancing her acting and singing careers.
The ‘Starving’ hitmaker hopes she can merge her two jobs more often in the future as she is "happiest" when she does both at the same time.
She told Deadline: "It’s definitely been a balancing act for the last couple of months. It’s challenging. I’m finding the more I do both at the same time, I see how they conflict. Timing wise, it’s hard. Luckily, it’s been pretty seamless up until this point.
"I’m happiest when I’m doing both at the same time. I don’t see myself doing one and not the other. Whether it’s creating a soundtrack for a film or singing, whatever it is, I would love to integrate the two in the future!"
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old star previously opened up about how important it is for her and her fellow celebrities to stick together.
She said: "Banding together – whether it’s a group of women or a group of men or both – is awesome."
Speaking about Shawn Mendes, she added: "I remember meeting him three years ago when I was just dipping my toes into the whole music thing and he inspired me to stay on. He’s so kind and even then, I knew he was going to be a big star."
And Hailee is keen to use her fame to promote feminism, something which she describes as having been the "elephant in the room" for a long time.
She added: "For some time, feminism was the elephant in the room. Being a young female who has the honour of reaching thousands of people with one message is incredible. I’ve got a lot to learn.
"It is important to have the mindset of, ‘I can do anything I want. I can be anyone I want. I can take on any challenge without anyone holding me back.’ But knowing you’re allowed to mess up and break down and make mistakes. Words like unbreakable, untouchable, perfect – that’s so much for one person to handle."
