The Smiths to release two unheard tracks on vinyl

The Smiths are to release a new vinyl single with two previously unheard tracks.
Singer Morrissey’s fan site, true-to-you.net, reports that the 7 inch-disc features unreleased versions of ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’ from their third album ‘The Queen Is Dead’ and the b-side ‘Rubber Ring’ from 1987’s ‘Louder Than Bombs’.
The vinyl will reportedly be released on Warner UK with a release date yet to be confirmed.
The artwork has also been shared on the site and has been created by the 57-year-old musical and features ‘Skyfall’ actor Albert Finney.
The news comes after Morrissey hit out at the lack of support the 30th anniversary of the Smith’s ‘The Queen is Dead’ has received from their record label.
He previously said: "People want new vinyl now, they do not want the old originals. Physicals were only ever removed at the wish of the major labels … who didn’t want stock clogging up their offices and hallways."
The outspoken singer also accused labels of not giving music fans what they actually want.
He explained: "People still want to go into shops to buy LPs and even 7-inch discs, but it doesn’t suit the labels whereas streaming does … and consequently music bought with no effort has resulted in meaningless music charts."
Meanwhile, guitarist Johnny Marr recently revealed he almost reformed the group in 2008 with Morrissey.
The 58-year-old musician – who was formerly a member of the rock band from their formation in 1982, to their split in 1987 – has revealed he once met up with his former band mate in a pub and discussed the possibility of a reunion.
Writing in his memoir ‘Set The Boy Free’, Johnny wrote: "Suddenly we were talking about the possibility of the band reforming, and in that moment it seemed that with the right intention it could actually be done and might even be great.
"I was genuinely pleased to be back in touch with Morrissey, and [current band] the Cribs and I talked about the possibility of me playing some shows with The Smiths. For four days it was a very real prospect.
Johnny then details how the plan went wrong when Morrissey suddenly stopped returning his calls.
He wrote: "Morrissey and I continued our dialogue and planned to meet up again. I went to Mexico with the Cribs, and then suddenly there was radio silence. Our communication ended, and things went back to how they were and how I expect they always will be."
