Han Solo spin-off ‘will have a Western-type feel’

The Han Solo spin-off movie will have a "Western-type feel", according to Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy.
The as-yet-untitled new movie in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise centres on the formative years of the iconic sci-fi character and Kathleen has revealed how the spin-off will be distinct from the earlier films.
She shared: "This moves closer to a heist or Western-type feel.
"We’ve talked about [Western-era artist Frederic] Remington and those primary colors that are used in his paintings defining the look and feel of the film."
Meanwhile, Kathleen also revealed her ambition of having a female director helm at least one movie in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.
However, she admitted that it’s important to find a female director whose experience matches the size of the role.
She told Variety: "We want to make sure that when we bring a female director in to do ‘Star Wars’ they’re set up for success.
"They’re gigantic films, and you can’t come into them with essentially no experience."
Kathleen revealed Lucasfilm is busily trying to identify talented female directors in the early stages of their careers.
She explained: "We want to really start to focus in on people we would love to work with and see what kinds of things they’re doing to progress up that ladder now, and then pull them in when the time is right."
She said, too, that Lucasfilm is keen to explore ways of making movie-watching a more interactive experience, partnering with Magic Leap, a virtual reality start-up, to achieve that ambition.
Kathleen shared: "We’re starting to have a lot more conversations with regard to mixed-reality, VR, AR, and what those experiences may be as an adjunct to what we’re doing with these films.
"There’s no question that we’re going to be exploring that."
