The Duke of Cambridge was the main target for people to tackle in rugby matches

The Duke of Cambridge was always the main target for people to tackle in rugby, according to Eddie Redmayne.
The 34-year-old actor, who was part of the sporting team at Eton College alongside Prince William, has admitted it was "great" playing in William’s team because the 34-year-old royal was always in the firing line to be bulldozed over by their opposition as their competitors wanted to brag to their parents they tackled the future King of England.
Speaking on the American chat show ‘Watch What Happens Live’ with Andy Cohen, the ‘The Theory of Everything’ star said: "The thing about playing rugby with Prince William is it was great for us, but you would go and want to play but all the people from the other schools would want to tackle him because they could go home and tell their families they tackled Prince William; so we were sort of running around with no-one on us."
And Eddie has revealed he found it interesting watching his fellow school friends "suck up" to William and his bodyguards.
He said: "I do remember that you would go out and the rugby pitches would be quite far away, and he had bodyguards all over the place and they would drive.
"So there would always be a race to see who suck up to him and bodyguards the most so that they could get a lift to the rugby pitches and back."
Meanwhile, Eddie – who has five-month-old daughter Iris with his wife Hannah Bagshawe – has revealed he has recently bumped into the father-of-two and has admitted the pair "bonded" on parenthood and feeling more mature since their old school days.
He said: "I saw him recently at a charity event and he was on very good form – and we bonded over new born children so we felt grown up and old."
