Lauren Lapkus joins Holmes and Watson

Lauren Lapkus has joined the cast of ‘Holmes and Watson’.
The 31-year-old actress is known for her comedic role in American sitcom ‘Are You There, Chelsea?’, and she has now signed up for the latest comedy adaptation of the classic ‘Sherlock Holmes’ novels.
‘Holmes and Watson’ already has big comedy names Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly – who famously starred together in ‘Step Brothers’ and ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby’ – attached.
The project will see fictional detective Sherlock Holmes (Ferrell) and his right-hand man John Watson (Reilly) take on classic mysteries with a comic spin.
The script is being penned by the project’s director Etan Cohen, using the characters originally created by writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the late 1800s.
Lauren will star alongside the pair as a new character named Millie, a young woman with a mind almost as sharp as the great detective, who gives Sherlock a run for his money.
According to Deadline, Sherlock becomes very taken with Millie and will end up being somewhat obsessed with her.
Although Millie is being branded as a new character, her traits are similar to the classic character Irene Adler, who uses her intelligence to ensnare the detective.
The news of Lauren’s addition to the cast comes after Ferrell was initially to star in the movie with Sacha Baron Cohen – who also appeared in ‘Talladega Nights’ – but development was stalled and Cohen dropped out.
With the main cast locked down, bosses are looking to start shooting the film later this month, with some sources suggesting the start date will be after Thanksgiving (24.11.16).
