Isabella Rossellini joins Across the River and Into the Trees

Isabella Rossellini has joined the cast of ‘Across the River and Into the Trees’.
The 64-year-old actress has signed up to the film adaptation of the Ernest Hemingway novel of the same name, to be directed by Martin Campbell.
Maria Valverde has also been announced to join the cast, and the pair will star alongside the previously announced Pierce Brosnan.
The story follows an American officer (played by Pierce), who is serving in Italy after the events of World War II. When he is presented with the news that he is suffering from a terminal illness, he opts to spend a weekend in quiet solitude and commandeers a military driver to visit his old haunts in Venice. As his journey continues, he meets a young countess who begins to bestow him with the hope of renewal.
Maria, 29, will play the countess, while Isabella will portray the formidable Contessa Contorini, the countess’ mother.
Peter Flannery – who won a BAFTA for his outstanding achievement in television writing in 1997 – has penned the script for the project, which is set to start filming in Venice and Trieste early next year.
Robert K. MacLean, John Smallcombe and Kristen Roegner are producing, with William J. Immerman, Krista Wegener, Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi working as executive producers.
AMBI Distribution – the worldwide sales arm of Andrea and Monika’s AMBI Group – is handling the international sales at the currently ongoing American Film Market.
‘Across the River and Into the Trees’ has no release date as of yet, and the casting of Isabella comes after she was last seen on the big screen alongside Jennifer Lawrence in ‘Joy’.
