Fede Alvarez to make The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel?

Fede Alvarez is being eyed to direct ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ sequel.
It’s hoped Roony Mara will reprise her role as computer hacker Lisbeth Salander from David Fincher’s 2009 Hollywood interpretation of the Swedish novel and Sony want the ‘Don’t Breathe’ director to helm the forthcoming movie, according to Variety.
The film is based on the fourth book in the Millennium series written by David Lagercrantz, who took over the franchise after the original novel’s author Stieg Larsson died in 2004.
In the first title Salander wreaked revenge on her legal guardian who sexually assaulted her and teamed up with journalist Mikael Blomkvist – played by Daniel Craig – to investigate the murder of a young girl but stumbled across a family’s dark secrets.
Sony has decided against making the second and third book in the series, titled ‘The Girl Who Played with Fire’ and ‘The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest’, and has jumped forward to the fourth novel instead titled ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web.’
Lagercrantz was shrouded in secrecy when it was written but was finally released worldwide in August 2015 and reunites Salander and Blomkvist when the former becomes embroiled in the activities of computer scientist Frans Balder.
The movie has been top of Sony’s list to make since it acquired the rights to the book last year and Steven Knight penned the script with Scott Rudin, Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon, Eli Bush.
Yellow Bird’s Ole Søndberg and Søren Stærmose – who produced the ‘Millennium’ TV series – will produce and production is penciled in for next year.
