Liam Gallagher: My solo album sounds promising

Liam Gallagher says his solo album is "sounding promising".
The 44-year-old rocker is set to release his debut LP in 2017 after he signed a record contract with Warner Bros earlier this year, and says it’s the "disbelief" from people claiming he can’t go solo that spurs him on.
The former Oasis frontman told The Sunday Times newspaper: "I can only say it’s sounding promising. There’s disbelief, without a doubt. That spurs me on. It’s like when people body-shame someone, and two minutes later they’ve got a six-pack."
And the musician – who has been finding songwriting difficult since parting ways with brother and band mate Noel Gallagher – admits he "can’t write songs", but he says the material he has so far "is good".
He said: "I’m not a media darling, so people go, ‘He can’t write songs.’ And maybe I can’t, but what I’ve got is good. It’s a bit of everything. A few are a bit ‘Working Class Hero’, which suits my Rolls-Royce. And garage-rock psychedelia, in your face. There’s a song I like called ‘Over’ — acoustic, faraway voices. Cool. I think it will put a few people in their place."
Despite thinking his songwriting skills are lacking, the ‘Champagne Supernova’ singer is the first one to boast that the vocals on the record are "sounding delicious".
He said: "The main thing is, the voice is sounding delicious. It’s still banging it. Then there’s nice falsetto bits. Bit chilled."
Meanwhile, the ‘Wonderwall’ hitmaker has been keeping his mouth shut about a firm release date for the LP, telling one fan at the premiere for Oasis documentary ‘Supersonic’ that it’ll "be out when it’s out".
Since Oasis split in 2009, Liam tried to continue with the remaining members of the rock heavyweights under the name Beady Eye, but disbanded the group in 2014. This will mark the star’s first solo material, and will rival 49-year-old Noel’s band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
