Michael Douglas’ son has been released from solitary confinement.
Cameron Douglas had spent almost two years incarcerated alone without visitors at Cumberland Federal Corrections Institute in Maryland after breaching his original sentence for drug dealing, but it has now emerged the tough punishment was relaxed "some time ago".
Anthony Papa of the Drug Policy Alliance told RadarOnline.com: "It’s true. That’s what I heard.
"It actually happened a little while back. I’m not sure of the exact date."
However, it is unclear yet whether Michael and his ex-wife, Cameron’s mother Diandra Lucker, will be able to see their son yet.
Anthony added: "I’m not sure if they will be allowed to visit, but Cameron is out of solitary."
Michael – who is married to Catherine Zeta Jones, the mother of his children Dylan, 13, and 10-year-old Carys – drew attention to Cameron’s situation at the Emmy Awards last year as he accepted a prize for his role in ‘Behind the Candelabra’.
He said in his speech: "I’m questioning the system. At first I was certainly disappointed with my son, but I’ve reached a point now where I’m disappointed with the system.
"If you happen to have a slip, they punish you. In my son’s case, he has spent almost two years in solitary confinement."
Cameron was handed a five-year sentence for heroin possession and conspiracy to distribute narcotics in 2009, which was extended by four and a half years in 2011 after he committed drug infractions behind bars, meaning he is due to be released in 2018.
