Emmy Awards pay tribute to late Alan Rickman

The Emmy Awards remembered late stars Alan Rickman and Gene Wilder and others who have died in the past year.
The ‘In Memoriam’ segment of the 2016 Emmy Awards on Sunday night (18.09.16) paid tribute to the many stars who have passed away in the past 12 months, including the ‘Harry Potter’ actor, the ‘Stir Crazy’ star and ‘Star Trek’ actor Anton Yelchin.
Henry Winkler, 70, introduced the heartfelt tribute by honouring director and ‘Happy Days’ creator Garry Marshall – who died at the age of 81 in July – before the slideshow of names was beamed onto a big screen.
Winkler – who played The Fonz in the popular American sitcom ‘Happy Days’ – said: "He was alive, he was a generosity of spirit and knowledge. I should know – he gave me my career. And I will tell you that anybody who was lucky enough to meet him, he changed their life. On behalf of all of us, Gary, thank you for inviting us into your schoolyard."
The star introduced the list of incredible names by saying that their "accomplishments and contributions will never be forgotten."
Other stars who were honoured in the slideshow included Patty Duke, Alan Young, Anton Yelchin, Doris Roberts, Dan Haggerty, Garry Shandling, Prince and David Bowie.
Controversially, former ‘The Voice’ contestant Christina Grimmie was missed from the tributes after she was shot in June, and late WWE wrestler Chyna was also not included.
The tribute slideshow was accompanied by a beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ performed by Tori Kelly, after she announced her involvement via Twitter on Wednesday (14.09.16), saying she was "honoured" to take part.
She tweeted: "Honored to perform at the #Emmys this sunday 9/18. tune in at 7est/4pst on abc @televisionacad (sic)"
