Tom Hanks for Greyhound

Tom Hanks is set to star in ‘Greyhound’.
The 60-year-old actor has written the script for the upcoming World War II movie and is said to be keen to appear in the motion picture, which will be directed by Aaron Schneider.
According to Deadline, Gary Goetzman will produce the project, which tells the story of a career officer who is given control of a Navy destroyer called Greyhound.
Not only does the character have to deal with his enemies, he also has a battle against his own personal self-doubt.
FilmNation are in discussions with Playtone Pictures about financing the movie, which has a budget of around $35 million.
Should Hanks land the main part it will not be the first time he has been in charge of a ship in a film.
In 2013 thriller ‘Captain Phillips’, the Hollywood star portrayed Richard Phillips, who was captain of the unarmed container vessel the MV Maersk Alabama.
The movie told the true story of Phillips’ ship being hijacked by Somali pirates in 2009, the first cargo ship to have been taken over in such a way in 200 years.
Hanks starred alongside David Warshofsky, Catherine Keener and Barkhad Abdi, who appeared as pirate leader Abduwali Muse.
In his latest movie, Clint Eastwood’s ‘Sully’, he is also in charge of a vehicle as airline captain Chesley Sullenberger.
The film tells the real story of the titular pilot who managed to glide his plane along the Hudson River, saving all of the 155 crew and passengers on board.
