Brandon Routh’s worthless Superman toys

Brandon Routh has revealed his complete collection of Superman toys is worthless because his son has played with them so much.
The 36-year-old American actor was shot to fame when he portrayed the Man of Steel and his alter ego Clark Kent in the 2006 film ‘Superman Returns’ – which served as a homage to the late Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of the DC Comics character.
The movie was due to be the start of a franchise but Warner Bros. Pictures dropped their plans for a sequel due to a disappointing box office return.
Routh was gifted all the figures made of him and his castmates, who included Kevin Spacey as villain Lex Luthor and Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, and as the series was cancelled they are collectors’ items but his have no value because his four-year-old son Leo James – his child with his wife Courteney Ford – has bashed them together so much.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, Routh said: "I do have a few (Superman souvenirs), yeah! I have all the Mattel toys I was given. My son’s been playing with them, so they’re not valuable any more, but they’re getting good use."
Since his Superman days Routh has starred in DC’s ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ in which he plays Atom and can currently be seen as Theo, an astronaut in sci-fi film ‘400 Days’.
Although he is disappointed her only got one outing as Superman, Routh enjoyed everything about playing the flying hero.
He said: "I look back fondly. I loved the character and I’d have been happy to have done more. It still holds a very powerful and passionate spot in my heart."
Routh wasn’t hugely into comic books as a kid and the heroes he looked up to were sportsmen.
He said: "I liked American football cards mostly, but also baseball and basketball cards. For many years that’s what my money was spent on – that and video games. Nintendo was my other big obsession."
