Eddie Murphy rules out Beverley Hills Cop return

Eddie Murphy says he won’t do another ‘Beverley Hills Cop’ movie, because the script is poor.
The 55-year-old actor rose to fame playing film cop Axel Foley in the 1984 blockbuster film ‘Beverley Hills Cop’ and reprised the role for the 1987 and 1994 sequels and while the 2013 TV movie based on Foley’s son sparked reports of a fourth film, Murphy has quashed his return as Axel.
Speaking on American TV show ‘Extra’ he said: "You know they’ve been trying for years to get a ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ together and haven’t been able to get that right one. I don’t want to do it unless it’s right.
"I had a couple of times when they’ve (movie bosses) been like, ‘Hey let’s do it’, and, you know, it wasn’t right, but they’ll do it anyways because the title of it. There’s an expectation and people might come out to see it no matter what it is but I don’t want to (do it). I’ve done my share of s**tty movies and I don’t want to do a s**tty movie."
Murphy has been involved in an array of comedy films including voicing Donkey in the ‘Shrek’ franchise, and playing scientist Sherman Klump in ‘The Nutty Professor’, and Dr. John Dolittle in ‘Dr Dolittle’.
And while talks are halted on the future of a new ‘Beverley Hills Cop’, fans can catch Murphy in feel good film ‘Mr. Church’, where he plays a compassionate cook who supports a young girl and her dying mother.
Speaking about his new role, he said: "I wanted to do something that I hadn’t done before was totally uncharted waters for me as an actor," he explains. "I usually do comedies, trying to be funny; I’ve never been offered anything that had this type of emotional stuff going on, this subject matter."
Mr. Church hits the big screens on September 16.
