David Ayer backed by Joe Quesada over Marvel swipe

Marvel Entertainment boss Joe Quesada has laughed off David Ayer’s "f**k Marvel" comment insisting it was all in "good fun".
The director made his comment as he introduced his DC Comics movie ‘Suicide Squad’ at the film’s world premiere at the Beacon Theater in New York City on Monday night (01.08.16) following a fan’s anti-Marvel outburst.
He took to Twitter soon after to apologise for "getting caught up in the moment" and now Marvel Chief Creative Officer Quesada has come out to tell Marvel devotees to calm down about Ayer’s words and tell the filmmaker he’s looking to watching his anti-hero romp.
Quesada – who also worked for DC Comics before taking up his position at Marvel – wrote on Twitter: "Hey Marvel faithful I know you’re upset but cut @DavidAyerMovies a break, it was all in good fun … Can’t wait to see SS, best of luck David! (sic)"
Former Marvel President Stan Lee also took to Twitter to tell Ayer, 48, not to worry about his misinterpreted joke.
The 93-year-old writer – who is responsible for creating Spider-Man, the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four – tweeted: "Hey @DavidAyerMovies – Don’t feel too bad about dropping the f bomb. It’s a compliment of the highest order!"
Ayer himself has addressed the rivalry between Marvel and DC Comics likening it to being like the friendly competition between opposing sports teams.
Speaking during the promotional tour for ‘Suicide Squad’ in London this week, he said: "I think that’s part of the fun of this. It’s a little bit like football squads. You get to root for your team and some people root for both teams."
Warner Bros. Pictures’ ‘Suicide Squad’ – which stars Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne among the stellar cast – is in cinemas now.
