Nick Cave opens up on ‘catastrophic loss’

Nick Cave has hinted at the toll the "catastrophic" loss of his teenage son has taken on him.
In a trailer for ‘One More Time With Feeling’, the movie which will launch his band’s new album ‘Skeleton Tree’, Nick appears to be referring to the death of Arthur, 15, who fell from a cliff in Brighton, East Sussex last year, while under the influence of LSD.
Speaking in the haunting clip, the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds star says: "What happens when an event occurs that is so catastrophic you just change.
"You change from the known person, to an unknown person.
"So that when you look at yourself in the mirror, do you recognise the person that you were but the person inside the skin is a different person."
Last year it was revealed at an inquest held at Woodvale Crematorium in Brighton, East Sussex, England that Arthur had the hallucinogenic drug – known as Lysergic acid diethylamide – in his system when he plunged 60ft down Ovingdean Gap in Brighton at around 6pm on July 14, 2015.
The youngster – who has a twin, Earl – was rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with a fractured skull, broken legs and bleeding on the brain after he was discovered by motorists in slow-moving traffic.
Following the news of the tragedy, Nick – who was born in Australia – and his wife Susie paid tribute to their "beautiful, happy" son.
They said in a joint statement: "Our son Arthur died on Tuesday evening. He was our beautiful, happy loving boy.
"We ask that we be given the privacy our family needs to grieve at this difficult time."
Both Arthur and Earl appeared in Nick’s 2014 biopic ‘20,000 Days On Earth’.
