Joss Whedon needs to watch ’40 years’ of Doctor Who before he’ll write for show

Joss Whedon would have to watch "40 years of television" if he ever agreed to write for ‘Doctor Who’.
The 52-year-old screenwriter – who was the mastermind behind ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ – wouldn’t rule out taking over the reins of the sci-fi series but has admitted he’d have to spend hours watching the past episodes because he hasn’t been a die-hard fan and seen every series.
Speaking at The Nerd Machine convention last weekend, Joss said during his Q&A: "I’m not sure [if I would write for ‘Doctor Who’], and here’s why. I’d have to do a lot of research. Like watch 40 years of television. I’ve seen some of it…"
However, Joss would be more open to joining the show, which first aired in 1963, if a woman played the Time Lord.
He explained: "It would be very daunting to follow in the footsteps of [Steven] Moffat and the guys. Check back with me when The Doctor is a she … Or Idris Elba."
Meanwhile, ‘Doctor Who’ is set for a huge shake-up next year when current producer Steven Moffat hands over the production reins to the new show runner Chris Chibnall.
However, he’s not the only one to make executive decisions as he will share the position with Matt Strevens.
The BBC shared the news on their official Twitter account earlier this month: "BBC Studios Wales announces Matt Strevens to join Chris Chibnall as Executive Producer on #DoctorWho Series 11 (sic)"
The tweet was then mysteriously deleted but Strevens – who produced ‘Misfits’ – has confirmed the news.
