Top Gear to axe festive specials

‘Top Gear’ bosses have axed plans to do two festive specials.
The revamped motoring show reportedly planned to make 18 episodes – two of which would be released around Christmas – in its first year on screen but it seems producers have decided to shelve the December shows as they are racing against the clock following a number of setbacks since its launch in May.
A source told the Radio Times Online: "It’s six [episodes] down, 12 to go. It is hard to imagine the show making 12 more episodes by the spring – possible, but it will be a big ask.
"There are many expensive multi-series contracts in place and there can be no slip-ups. ‘Top Gear’ can play catch-up in theory but it could impact quality."
The first series of the car show has just wrapped up but bosses are no doubt concerned for its future after it was heavily criticised by viewers, which resulted in Chris Evans – who signed a three-year contract last year – quitting as its host.
It’s believed Matt LeBlanc – who co-hosted the show with Chris during the last series – will now take over as the main presenter.
A source said recently: "Matt is going to get the big job on his own. There are already active negotiations and he’s almost certain to sign now that he doesn’t have to work with Chris. Chris won’t be replaced but Matt will become the star presenter surrounded by the existing team."
