The ‘Confident’ hitmaker has praised her close pal for "pouring his heart and soul" into his music.
She said: "I actually watched him perform really emotional songs like ‘A Little Bit Longer’ whenever we’ve toured together when we were younger and always admired the way that he poured his heart and soul into his music."
And the ‘Levels’ singer feels touring with Demi, 23, has "pushed" him to be better and get "more vulnerable" in his music.
Speaking in a joint interview with The Morning Call newspaper, Nick added: "There are moments I think we both pushed each other, as well. Demi, in pushing me to get more vulnerable in my music with this next record and encouraging me to really open up about some things that happened in my life that I think will help people get even more connected to me.
"And those moments among friends and creative relationships are so important because I think they really shape not only your next steps but the way the world sees you as well which is key in making a transition from a youthful career to what hopefully is a long-lasting adult tour."
Meanwhile, Nick previously admitted he was "genuinely concerned" he’d lose Demi when she battled with alcohol and drug abuse and an eating disorder.
He said: "It’s been years of working on herself and getting better, but she’s amazing – and a better singer, too, because she’s healthy. But I was genuinely concerned that I might lose my friend.
"We’ve always had very open communication and we’re very honest with one another. There’s also a real and genuine comfort level between us. And I think a lot of our chemistry comes from that. She has been very close friend and business partner for nearly ten years. I’m in constant awe of how powerful her voice is and in my opinion she’s truly one of the most talented artists out there."
