LeAnn Rimes: I always wanted to get older

LeAnn Rimes "always wanted to get older".
The ‘Can’t Fight The Moonlight’ hitmaker had a tough time growing up in the spotlight as a child star after rising to fame with a cover of Bill Mack’s song ‘Blue’ in 1996, when she was just 13, and now she’s admitted she couldn’t wait to become an adult at the time and even at the age of 33 she’s still not "weirded out" by aging.
Asked if she minded being mentioned in a song by Barenaked Ladies called ‘One Week’, in which they rap "Hot like wasabi when I bust rhymes … Big like LeAnn Rimes", LeAnn said: "I don’t mind. When you start as a fetus, which basically I did, I was 13 when my first single came out so I always wanted to get older. I haven’t hit that age where I’m kind of weirded out by it but 33 is still good."
Meanwhile, LeAnn admits that she wouldn’t be where she is now without going through some "ups and downs" in her life.
Asked if she is where she thought she’d be when she was a teenager, she told BBC Radio Two: "Is there a place I am supposed to think I thought I would be? I guess maybe? Or I don’t know. I really don’t know how to answer that question! So all the ups and downs in my life and career have brought me to this place so it all makes sense all of a sudden. So it’s ‘Oh that’s why I went through that’, that and it’s like now it feels really good."
The 33-year-old country singer recently admitted she almost gave up on music after she was personally attacked for cheating on her former spouse Dean Sheremet in 2009 with her now husband Eddie Cibrian.
She said: "I lost my mind in private. I’ve gone through a lot, every transition and every feeling that goes along with being a child star.
"I can see now why at 33 things happened the way they did and all of these lessons I’ve learned. But it was hell at times … (The affair) was a mistake but it also led me to my marriage. I didn’t know how to deal with that and it became this snowball effect."
Although she regrets the way she treated Dean, LeAnn now has a very happy marriage to Eddie Cibrian – who was married to Brandi Glanville when they embarked on their affair after meeting on the set of ‘Northern Lights’ – and knows he is the right man for her.
She shared: "I’m very happy now. We’ve been married for over five years and I have my two stepsons, but the shaming thing, that’s where I had severe anxiety and depression."
