Chris Evans quits Top Gear

Chris Evans has quit ‘Top Gear’.
The 50-year-old star – who joined the revamped motoring show late last year – has decided to step down as the programme’s co-host following just one series after his hosting skills were regularly scrutinised by viewers.
Taking to his Twitter account on Monday (04.07.16), he tweeted: "Stepping down from ‘Top Gear’. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best. (sic)"
Despite walking away from the car show, Chris is determined to remain on good terms with the BBC and has assured fans he’ll continue to work with the channel on various other projects.
He added: "Full steam ahead then with Radio 2, CarFest, Children In Need, 500 Words and whatever else we can dream up in the future. (sic)"
A spokesperson for the BBC said: "I have never worked with a more committed and driven team than the team I have worked with over the last 12 months. I feel like my standing aside is the single best thing I can now do to help the cause. I remain a huge fan of the show, always have been, always will be."
The fate of his co-host Matt LeBlanc, who joined the show in April, is not yet known but judging by the rave reviews he’s had, it’s likely bosses are keen to keep him on board.
Meanwhile, Chris’ decision to step down comes just hours after it was revealed ‘Top Gear’s final show on Sunday night (03.07.16) pulled in its lowest viewing figures since 2002.
Chris stepped into the driving seat of the programme late last year following the shock departure of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
