Steven Spielberg won’t kill off Indiana Jones in the fifth instalment of the franchise.
The, as yet untitled, movie is set for release in 2019, and will once again star Harrison Ford in the title role and Steven is reluctant to reveal plot details, except for one spoiler.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I think this one is straight down the pike for the fans. The one thing I will tell you is I’m not killing off Harrison at the end of it."
Steven is excited about the new movie in the franchise he and Harrison have been involved in for over 35 years but he is also working on a number of other projects.
Next month will see the release of Steven’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s ‘The BFG’, which he filmed for Disney, his first time working with the studio.
He said: "I have directed films for every studio in Hollywood except for Walt Disney – until now.
"Disney was truly, when I was a kid, my singular inspiration and also the source of most of my nightmares. The separation of mother and child … I mean, the killing of Bambi’s [mother] – it was just one of the most …"
He is also involved with the historical drama ‘The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara’ and a potential re-make of the classic musical ‘West Side Story’.
On top of his creative endeavours Steven, 69, has been involved in the brand new Amblin Partners company, which is set to make family movies under the Amblin Entertainment label, adult fare under the DreamWorks banner and socially conscious films under the Participant Media name.
His partner in the DreamWorks company, Jeffery Katzenberg, said: "I don’t know that there’s a time when he’s been more prolific.
"Make no mistake – he’s still the master storyteller of our time. If you look at the profitability and excellence of his work, he has no peer."
