Muhammad Ali has a street named after him

Muhammad Ali has had a street named after him.
The boxing legend died from septic shock on June 3 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and New York City officials have decided to commemorate his memory by temporarily renaming 33rd Street – which is close to Madison Square Garden, where Ali fought eight times – Muhammad Ali Way in his honour.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement: "Muhammad Ali was a champion, activist and the self-proclaimed Greatest.
"Throughout his life he lived up to that title again and again – and today, we are paying tribute to the man in the heart of this city."
The three-time world heavyweight champion’s daughter Laila Ali, 38, was thrilled by the honour.
She took to Instagram to broadcast the news with a photo of a workman hanging the new street sign below the original placard.
She captioned the post: "New York City temporarily named a street after my father. Such an honour for the G.O.A.T
I’m sending love and positive vibes to all of you who have ever lost someone you love! Thank for all of your kind words and condolences (sic)."
Meanwhile, Laila is thankful her father is free from any pain and suffering caused by the debilitating symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, which he was diagnosed with in 1986.
Speaking previously, she said: "It was time for him to go. I know he’s in a better place now and he’s talking again and moving again and doing all the things that he couldn’t do in his body.
"I’m happy for that even though I will miss him deeply."
And Laila admitted seeing her father struggle with the condition was just as "sad" as his passing.
She explained: "I can say that I’m obviously really sad, but I’ve been sad for a long time just watching my father struggling with Parkinson’s disease.
"You know, you hold your head up and you say, ‘Yeah, he’s doing great,’ but I felt like [Muhammad] was trapped inside of his body. So I have comfort knowing that he’s not suffering anymore."
