Helen George auditioned for Doctor Who

Helen George auditioned for ‘Doctor Who’ five years ago – but was rejected.
The 31-year-old actress has admitted she met with casting director Andy Pryor and was in talks to star in the BBC One science-fiction series, but was snubbed in favour of being cast as Trixie Franklin in the tear-jerking period drama ‘Call the Midwife’.
Speaking to The Stage website about how she landed the role in the award-winning programme, which received the Best Family Drama accolade at last year’s TV Choice Awards, she said: "It was really lucky – it one of those castings where I was in the right place at the right time, I’d met him for ‘Doctor Who’ a couple of months before and he got me back in for this. It was a five-minute audition and I didn’t hear for a couple of weeks, then suddenly I got it."
The blonde beauty, who joined the cast in 2012 to star alongside comedian Miranda Hart, Judy Parfitt and Pam Ferris, was initially told she’d be in the drama for six weeks but was surprised when her contract was extended time and time again.
She explained: "It was supposed to be for six episodes for the summer and I thought: ‘At least I won’t have to waitress.’ But four years later and we’re still here."
